Catamarans, at the moment, are one of the fastest growing segments of the entire boating industry. Power catamaran builders of note include Lagoon, Endeavour and Prowler. Important sailing catamaran builders include Fontaine Pajot, Voyager and Catana.
Catamarans are a relatively current design of boat for both recreational and competitive sailing. Catamarans have been met by a degree of skepticism from some traditional sailors accustomed to more "conventional" designs.
The speed and stability of catamarans has made them an extremely popular pleasure craft. They appear to be most popular in Europe and they are gaining increasing popularity in America. Currently, most of the individually owned catamarans are built in France, South Africa, and Australia.
